1.4. OFFICIAL LUNCH OF THE FOUNDATION, MAIDEN FREE MEDICAL OUTREACH, AWARD OF SCHOLARSHIPS, AND GIFTING OF SOCIAL WELFARE ITEMS.
OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF THE FOUNDATION AND THE MAIDEN FREE MEDICAL OUTREACH: The Foundation set off preparations for the official launch of the Foundation, Maiden Free Medical Outreach, Award of Scholarships, and Social Welfare Services which was held on the 30th of December 2021 at the Umuekpe Ntigha Civic Hall. The event was not just remarkable but memorable as it turned into a health carnival for most rural community dwellers within the locality in dire need of healthcare services, which had been unaffordable and, most times unavailable. A total of 1,000 persons benefited from the medical outreach. Our volunteer team of doctors, nurses, laboratory scientists, optometrists, pharmacy attendants, other workers and attendants, and community leaders and stakeholders formidably sufficed. There were also enough point-of-care laboratory (lab) test kits for use and a stockpile of drugs across all health conditions to sufficiently dispense. The beneficiaries had their vital signs; blood pressure, pulse rate, respiratory rate, and temperature checked by the nurses. The lab scientists manned the station for basic investigation comprising sections for fasting or random blood glucose for the adult beneficiaries and any other child as recommended by the doctors; total cholesterol, Hb, blood group/genotype, and urinalysis, all on the recommendations of the doctors. The optometrist took charge of the eye check section and issued glasses and primary care treatment to those in need. The doctors' team held the center stage for the review including history taking, examination, lab results interpretation, and treatment of the beneficiaries, while the pharmacy technicians and attendants did well their job and promptly dispensed the prescribed drugs
AWARD OF SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THE 2021/22 ACADEMIC SESSION: The hope to complete tertiary education was also rekindled amongst the indigent undergraduates from the Umuekpe Ntigha Autonomous Community as all eligible candidates had their tuition taken up by the Foundation through her ‘full tenure scholarship awards’ to indigent students in the Umuekpe Ntigha Autonomous Community for the rest of their undergraduate academic years. The following are the scholarship award recipients for the 2021/22 academic year.
GIFTING OF SOCIAL WELFARE ITEMS: Mixed feelings, tears, and shouts of joy heralded the gifting of food items and condiments under the Social Welfare Scheme of JNOF to the ‘Idinotu Women Association of Umuekpe Ntigha Autonomous Community’. A body comprising all women married into the community in appreciation of their motherly roles in the community and as a Christmastide festival gesture. The gift items include the following.
· 40 bags of rice
